Academic interests

I am interested in marine organisms and the marine environment. I am especially interested in the different protistan parasites infecting fish along the Norwegian coastline and what their occurence tells us about ecosystem health.

Background

I studied Biology during my bachelor's at the University of Duisburg-Essen in Germany. I did my Bachelor's project and thesis in the department of Aquatic Ecosystem Research where I used DNA barcoding to analyze the biodiversity of parasitic mites and their macroinvertebrate hosts in two different ecosystems.

During my master's, I studied Biodiversity at the Ruhr-University of Bochum and the University of Duisburg-Essen. I did internships in the department of Eukaryotic Microbiology where I learned the application and analysis of different taxonomic assignment methods. In my master's thesis I analyzed environmental DNA metabarcoding data from the Norwegian marine coastline.
