Academic interests
I’m interested in macrofungi, bioinformatics and the use of natural history collections. My current research focuses on spatial phylogenetics in macrofungi.
Background
- Bioinformatic / data scientist for Bio-Prodict in the Netherlands. Developer to help guide scientific research in the field of protein engineering, molecular design, and DNA diagnostics.
- Master’s degree in data science at the Radboud University in Nijmegen. During my master's, I spent time on Svalbard to do fieldwork on 3D model mountain outcrops around the west coast of Svalbard. I finished my master's with my thesis at EMBL-EBI in Cambridge looking at methods detecting protein-protein interactions “Quantifying the Biases in Molecular Interaction Detection Methods”.
- Bachelor’s degree in bioinformatics in the Netherlands, finished with a thesis on Fungi on Svalbard “Using Exact Sequence Variant Analysis to Create an Overview of the Distribution of Arctic Fungi on Svalbard”.
