Coleoptera

The Norwegian collection

The Norwegian collection of Coleoptera includes about 216,000 specimens in 700 drawers (as of January 16, 2008). One of our aims is to have all species of Norwegian beetles represented in the collection. Currently the collection has about 95 % of Norwegian species.

Some information on Norwegian Coleoptera can be found here.

The world collection

The foundation of our World beetle collection was created by collections donated to the museum by several eminent coleopterists (the main bulk comes from Thomas Münster collection).

The strength in the world collection

In geographical terms our World collection is particularly strong in Western Palaearctic and Australian beetles. We have especially good representation of the following families:

  • Carabidae
  • Staphylinidae
  • Scarabaeidae (sensu lato)
  • Cerambycidae
  • Curculionidae

A list of species in the world collection

A list of beetle species represented in our world collection is being prepared. As this work progresses we will keep adding new families to our list. The current list is posted here.
