Embrik Strand was born in 1876 in Ål in Hallingdal and died in Riga in 1947.

Embrik Strand studied at the University of Oslo (back then, the University of Kristiania). In 1898-1903 he made several collecting trips to different parts of Norway and collected a significant number of insect specimens, including beetles and moths. Much of this material was deposited at our museum where Embrik Strand was working as curator in 1901-1903.

Subsequently, Embrik Strand went abroad and worked at different museums and universities in Germany. In 1923 he took the position of professor of zoology at the University of Riga. He published actively on different groups of insects and spiders and described several hundred new species.
