The efforts of Anne Larigauderie in strengthening the global science-policy interface in relation to biodiversity and ecosystems through her research, work and role as Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) merits recognition through an honorary doctorate at the 2024 anniversary of the University of Oslo.

Universities around the world harbor vast expertise in biodiversity and ecosystem services. Mobilizing this knowledge is essential in tackling pressing global issues, but requires a team effort, pragmatism and interdisciplinarity. IPBES has strengthened the global science-policy interface in the last decade. Together with talks by professors Dag Olav Hessen and Thomas Hylland Eriksen, we will look ahead at opportunities and challenges and discuss the role biodiversity science should play in contributing expertise for society.
