By integrating data from multiple sources I hope to contribute to a better understanding of the systematics and evolutionary processes within selected groups of flowering plants, as well as doing alpha taxonomy and make contributions to regional African flora projects. My main systematic focus is petaloid monocoltelydons, particularly the families Hyacinthaceae, Dracaenaceae, Anthericaceae and Amaryllidaceae and I have field experience from most countries in Eastern and Southern Africa.

I am a systematic botanist with research interest covering taxonomy, morphology, cytology, reproductive biology, biogeography, ethnobotany, conservation and molecular phylogenetics. The Norwegian side of the NORPART project is headed by me.
