Highlights for children and families

The Natural History Museum is a paradise for children, both the indoor exhibitions and the Botanical Garden. Here is practical information for those visiting the museum with children, and tips on which highlights are popular in the exhibitions.

Eat and drink

  • You can bring and enjoy your own food at the following places:
    - Indoor at the library in the basement at Brøggers hus
    - Outdoor at the picnic lawn or under cover in the Garden house

  • At the café Handwerk Botaniske, you can purchase coffee, cold drinks, lunch dishes, and freshly baked goods. We sell water and drink bottles at the reception in the Climate house and the museum shop.

  • You are welcome to breastfeed or bottle-feed your child throughout the museum. We have various seating areas scattered around the exhibitions, benches in the garden, and large comfortable chairs in the Natural History Library.

Strollers and changing table

Strollers can normally be brought into our exhibitions, but on busy days, we request that strollers be parked outside the museum buildings. We provide baby carriers if needed. There are elevators in all multi-story exhibition buildings.

Natural History Library

Take a break from the exhibitions in the Natural History Library, which is specially designed for those coming with children. Look through books, draw, play with Lego, animal figures, and puzzles, eat your own food, or simply relax in a chair or in the cozy corner. You can find the library in the basement of Brøggers hus.

    Children in the Botanical Garden

In the Botanical Garden, we have three garden sections where children can play, run, and explore – The Willow Garden (Pilehagen), The Climate Garden (Klimahagen) and The Stone Garden (Steinhagen).

The Willow Garden is full of caves, sculptures, and tunnels made of living willow. Right nearby is the The Climate Garden with installations that allow children to explore natural and climate phenomena. In The Stone Garden, the children can enjoy a geological journey through time and touch and feel various stones.

For the rest of the Botanical Garden, we kindly ask visitors to stay on the pathways or the picnic lawn. This is for the sake of both the plants and the children. Please read the rules for the Botanical Garden.
