The project 'Terrestrial ecosystem-climate interactions of our EMERALD planet' had its kickoff meeting last week in the historic Domus Academica in Oslo.
April 2nd marks the official release of the new landscape classification of NiN (Nature in Norway), freely available from nin.artsdatabanken.no.

GEco is involved in two newly funded projects that relate to feedbacks in the climate system: an eXtension of LATICE, and EMERALD; "Terrestrial ecosystem-climate interactions of our EMERALD planet".
A new PhD fellow in GEco - Eva L. Eriksen - will be working on dynamic ecological modelling. The PhD project will focus on the spatial dynamics of plants in relation to climate change, as a part of GEco’s collaboration with the LATICE network and the recently funded EMERALD and INCLINE projects. Professor Olav Skarpaas is the main supervisor.
Natur i Endring-prosjektet har rekruttert hvermannsen til å forske på tre- og skoggrenser rundt omring i Norge. Resultatene fra sommeren 2018 har nettopp blitt presentert, og Forskning.no har laget nyhetssak om prosjektet.
A new paper is available in the most recent edition of Kart og Plan. "Training of new field mappers: The ABC-method" is based on the master thesis by Hannah E. E. Haga, and written by her and Anders Bryn, Anne B. Nilsen and Heidrun A. Ullerud.
A new paper on error estimation in field assignment of land-cover types using the NiN system is now available. Based on the master thesis of Eriksen, the paper was authored by Eva L. Eriksen, Heidrun A. Ullerud, Rune Halvorsen, Sigrun Aune, Harald Bratli, Peter Horvath, Inger K. Volden, Anders K. Wollan and Anders Bryn.
A new paper, titled "Loss of semi-natural grassland in a boreal landscape: impacts of agricultural intensification and abandonment" has just been printed in the Journal of Land Use Science. It was written by Sigrun Aune, Anders Bryn and Knut Anders Hovstad. Read is (open-access) here!
